Service Fee Disclosure
Exactly what you pay us, what you pay the State of Florida, and why the two are always shown separately.
Effective September 5, 2026. Last updated September 5, 2026.
This page exists so there is never any confusion about who is getting your money. We charge a fee for our work. That fee is separate from and in addition to the charges the State of Florida sets for a registration renewal.
You can do this yourself for free
1.The two charges on your receipt
| Line item | Who sets it | Who keeps it |
|---|---|---|
| Government registration charges | The State of Florida | The appropriate Florida agency. We keep none of it. |
| Administrative service fee | E Tag Renew | E Tag Renew |
These two lines never get merged into a single “total fee.” They stay separate on the checkout screen, on your receipt, in every email we send you, and in our internal records.
Current amounts are shown on our pricing page and again on screen before you pay. You always see the full total before entering any card details.
2.What the service fee pays for
Our fee covers the administrative work of handling your request:
- Collecting and checking your information for errors before anything is submitted.
- Looking up vehicle details from your plate so you type less.
- Preparing the renewal paperwork and the limited power of attorney.
- Submitting the request through publicly available channels.
- Tracking it, chasing it where we can, and posting every update to your timeline.
- Receiving the resulting documents and forwarding them to you.
- Answering your questions by email throughout.
It does not buy faster processing, priority handling, or any special access. We do not have any — see our Independent Service Disclaimer.
3.Why government charges are shown as an estimate
Florida registration charges vary by vehicle weight and class, county, decal type, the length of the renewal period, and whether any additional charges apply. Until the State processes your particular request, the exact figure is not knowable.
So we show our best estimate, labelled as an estimate, and reconcile it against the actual amount afterwards:
- Actual lower than estimate — we automatically refund you the difference.
- Actual higher than estimate — we pause and ask you what you want to do. We never charge your card more without you agreeing to it.
Full detail is in the Refund Policy.
4.How we handle government money
When we collect government charges from you, that money is held to be paid to the appropriate Florida agency on your behalf. We record every remittance with its amount, county, date, the staff member who made it, a reference number, and proof.
Money collected for the government and not yet remitted is tracked separately from our own revenue in our books. It is not treated as ours, because it is not ours.
In some situations we operate in a service fee only mode, where we charge you nothing but our fee and you pay the government charges directly. Where that applies, the checkout screen says so explicitly and the government line is shown for information only, clearly marked as not collected by us.
6.Your receipt
Every receipt we send shows both lines in these exact words:
Government registration charges — Collected by Florida Registration Assist and paid to the appropriate Florida agency on your behalf.
Administrative service fee — Retained by Florida Registration Assist.
The same split is carried through to our payment processor’s records, so your card statement and our receipt agree with each other.
7.Doing it yourself instead
If you would rather not pay a service fee, you can renew directly. Florida offers renewal online through the State’s official portal, by mail, and in person at a county tax collector office. Search for your county tax collector, or for the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles renewal page, and you will find the official options.
We would rather you make that choice knowingly than feel misled about what our fee is for.
