Process
How It Works
A step-by-step look at how we prepare, submit, and track a Florida vehicle registration renewal request on your behalf — and how your government charges and service fee stay separate at every step.
Florida Registration Assist is a privately owned administrative and concierge service. You give us the details, we prepare and submit the renewal paperwork on your behalf, and we keep you posted at every step. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you start to the moment your renewal is complete.
The steps
- Step 1
Start your request
Enter your vehicle’s Florida plate number and the county where it’s registered. We look up the VIN for you so you don’t have to dig it out, and we only ask for the minimum details needed for the renewal — never your Social Security number or a photo of your driver’s license.
- Step 2
Review the details
We show you everything in a single review before anything is submitted: your vehicle, your contact information, the government registration charges (an estimate based on current state and county rates), and our administrative service fee — listed separately, side by side. You confirm the details are correct.
- Step 3
Pay — two charges, clearly separated
You pay the government registration charges and our service fee together in one secure checkout, but they are never blended into one number. On screen, on your receipt, in your confirmation email, and on your payment record, the government charge is listed as collected by us and paid to the appropriate Florida agency on your behalf, and the service fee is listed as retained by us.
- Step 4
Sign your power of attorney
After payment, we generate your limited power of attorney (Florida form HSMV 82053) for you to review and sign. This authorizes us — for this one renewal only — to act on your behalf in submitting the paperwork. It does not give us broad authority over your vehicle or your accounts.
- Step 5
We review and prepare
A real person on our team reviews your information for obvious mistakes, prepares the required forms, and makes sure everything is ready to submit. If we spot a problem or need a detail we didn’t have at checkout, your request pauses and we reach out — nothing is submitted incomplete.
- Step 6
We submit on your behalf
We submit your renewal request to the appropriate Florida agency through the channels available to a private administrative service. We do not have automated access to government systems, and we do not claim to. Once it’s submitted, the timeline is set by the agency, not by us.
- Step 7
Track every step
Every update — review complete, submitted, information needed, result received — is posted to your case timeline. You can watch it in your account (or on your confirmation page if you checked out as a guest), and you can choose email or text notifications for the milestones that matter to you.
- Step 8
Completion and next year
When the renewal is complete, you’ll get a confirmation and your records are updated. If you opted in, we’ll also send you a reminder about 60 days and again about 30 days before your registration expires next year, so you have time to renew before it lapses.
How fees work
There are always two charges, and they are always shown separately:
- Government registration charges — Collected by Florida Registration Assist and paid to the appropriate Florida agency on your behalf. This amount is set by the State of Florida, not by us.
- Administrative service fee — Retained by Florida Registration Assist. This is what we charge for handling the renewal on your behalf.
You pay both in one secure checkout, but they never get blended into a single number. The same split shows up on your receipt, in your confirmation email, and on your payment record, so you always know exactly where your money is going.
Estimate vs. actual government charge
The government registration charge you see at checkout is an estimate based on current state and county rates. After we submit, the agency confirms the actual amount. What happens next depends on the difference:
- If the actual charge is less than what we collected, we refund the difference to your original payment method automatically — you don’t need to ask. The refund appears on your case timeline and in your records.
- If the actual charge is more than what we collected, your request is marked as needing your action. We reach out, explain the difference, and ask you to approve the additional amount before anything else happens. No extra charge is ever applied without your approval.
Why we separate these
How long it takes
Quick Processing Time Of Your Request Same Day We Post Every Update To Your Case Timeline As It Happens
We aim to review and submit your request promptly, but the final completion time is set by the Florida agency handling it. We do not promise a fixed turnaround or same-day service, and we’d be wary of anyone who does. The honest answer is that once we’ve submitted, the timeline is out of any private company’s hands — which is exactly why we post every update to your case timeline instead of asking you to take our word for it.
What we don’t do
- Promise instant, same-day, expedited, or guaranteed processing — we don’t control agency timing.
- Use automated access to government systems. Submission is handled by our staff through the channels available to a private service.
- Ask for your Social Security number or a photo of your driver’s license.
- Blend the government charge and our service fee into one number, anywhere.
- Describe ourselves as a government agency, an official service, or as affiliated with the State of Florida.
You can do this yourself
Everything we do, you can do yourself directly with the State of Florida through the official state channels at no additional service cost. We exist for people who would rather hand the paperwork off and have it handled for them. If you’d rather go direct, we mean it — that’s a perfectly good choice and we won’t try to talk you out of it.
